Even if you use the rated best anti aging cream that’s available in the market, you can’t expect excellent results especially if you are a sun starved person who loves a golden tan. Though you can apply some sunscreen while bathing in the ultraviolet rays and you can excessively apply anti aging products before and after you sunbathe, you are still bound to experience premature aging in the form of wrinkles, sags, and blotches. You can also have skin cancer. And, even if you employ the aid of a dermatologist, you won’t be able to offset all the adverse effects of ultraviolet radiation simply because scientists still do not fully understand how the sun’s harmful rays can cause so much skin damage.
A piece of the puzzle
In an article which was published in the Nature Medicine journal, researchers from the Medical School of the University of Michigan reported that the exposure to ultraviolet radiation reduces the ability of the skin cells to recognize and react to retinoic acid. Dr. John J. Voorhees, the Duncan and Ella Poth Distinguished Professor of Dermatology and one of the head researchers explains that retinoic acid is a nutrient needed by the skin and generated from vitamin A or retinol.
“The inability to respond to retinoic acid triggers a cascade of biochemical changes that upsets the normal balance between healthy and dying skin cells. In essence, UV causes a functional vitamin A deficiency in human skin,” Dr. Voorhees notes. This discovery is an important stepping stone in creating the rated best anti aging cream.
Reducing the harmful effects of the UV rays
When exposed to ultraviolet radiation, the skin cells gradually lose its retinoic acid receptors. Dr. Gary J. Fisher, Senior Associate Research Scientist in dermatology and the study’s co-author, notes that these receptors play a vital role for skin development. “Retinoic acid receptors are the molecular mediators of the biological actions of vitamin A. When activated by retinoic acid, transfer genetic instructions from DNA to the cell’s protein-producing factory telling it to assemble proteins needed for skin cell function. When retinoic acid receptors are lost, it is as if the skin has no vitamin A,” Dr. Fisher explained. So, even if you apply the rated best anti aging cream, the deemed effects wont be as successful.
